Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn won't be taking place at WrestleMania 41, with an Unsanctioned Match between the two longtime friends/rivals being made official for Elimination Chamber.
Owens invited Zayn to "come and find him" at Elimination Chamber on WWE SmackDown. Zayn then challenged Owens to a match at the pay-per-view/premium live event on Monday Night Raw, although Raw General Manager Adam Pearce announced Zayn hadn't yet been cleared by WWE's medical team. Zayn refused to leave the ring until the match was made official, though, and Pearce ultimately relented, announcing Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn at Elimination Chamber would be an Unsanctioned Match.
Owens vs. Zayn was set up on the post-Royal Rumble edition of Raw when Owens attacked Zayn following a post-match handshake with CM Punk and laid out his former friend with a package piledriver.
Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn will face each other in their home country of Canada. Elimination Chamber is scheduled to emanate from Toronto's Rogers Centre on March 1. As of Monday, February 17 over 27,000 tickets had been distributed for the event, according to WrestleTix.
The expectation had been that Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens would be a WrestleMania match. Instead, Owens is reportedly planned for a match with Randy Orton at WWE's biggest show of the year, with Owens having taken out Orton with a piledriver in late 2024.
