Kevin Owens: Why I Didn't Return To WWE NXT Full-Time

All down to Vince McMahon

Back at the 2019 edition of NXT TakeOver: WarGames, Kevin Owens made a shock return to the black and gold brand as he was revealed to be the fourth member of Team Ciampa. KO would align himself with The Blackheart, Dominik Dijakovic and Keith Lee for WarGames and they went on to defeat The Undisputed ERA.

Owens has previously revealed plans were in motion for him to make a full-time return to NXT but he ultimately ended up remaining on the main roster.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Owens noted he only made a one-night return because Vince McMahon - who had signed off on a second full-time NXT run for KO - changed his mind.

"Before I did the WarGames return, there were concrete plans for me to go back to NXT for an extended period before coming back to the main roster. At the time Paul Heyman was in charge on Raw and those were just plans we had and Vince [McMahon] had signed off on all of them and, eventually, he changed his mind and nothing happened," Owens said.

"That's all it comes down to - what he says goes. It wasn't something I had just floated about, it was a plan that was going to happen and they just went in a different direction."

Owens had previously performed on NXT in 2014 and 2015, becoming a one-time NXT Champion during his short run in developmental.
