AEW Collision returned back to its usual Saturday night slot last night, as the company took over the accesso ShowWare Center in Kent, Washington, and it was an event that featured quite a notable return. After over a year and a half away from the promotion, Kota Ibushi made his comeback to AEW programming, and it won’t be long until fans see him back wrestling between the ropes.
During a promo segment on Collision in which Mark Briscoe faced off with members of The Don Callis Family, including newest recruit Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada, Briscoe made sure to remind Callis that Kenny Omega had multiple friends who have his back. Ibushi’s music hit and he made his entrance, marching down to the ring to take out Josh Alexander and stare down Okada. Ibushi and Okada then got into it, with the returning name managing to send Okada running. It was announced that Ibushi would be back in the ring for a match on Dynamite.
Ibushi has been riddled with injuries ever since his last AEW appearance, needing to undergo surgeries after a disastrous match in Pro Wrestling NOAH. In the time since, Ibushi has sporadically wrestled, but has not competed since back in February earlier this year. It was noted previously that he was banned from the Tokyo Dome during the Wrestle Dynasty AEW/NJPW event in January. In terms of why his AEW return has been delayed so long, previous reports revealed that it came down to visa issues.
