Kurt Angle To Officiate Matt Riddle-Timothy Thatcher "Cage Fight" On NXT

A one-night return for your Olympic hero...

Though he was part of last month's mass wave of talent and staff releases, Kurt Angle will be appearing on this Wednesday's edition of NXT in an official capacity. He will be refereeing the "cage fight" between Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher.

Thatcher had filled in as a temporary partner for Riddle, in place of Pete Dunne, in recent times. The two mismatched personalities eventually imploded, and Thatcher walked out on Riddle on the May 13 broadcast, ceding the Tag Team titles to Imperium members Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner. Thatcher and Riddle then fought later in the show, with Riddle winning.

Thatcher then challenged Riddle to a match that could only be won via submission or knockout, which leads to this "cage fight".

Matches for this coming week's NXT include:

*Cage fight: Matt Riddle vs. Timothy Thatcher (Guest referee: Kurt Angle)

*Rhea Ripley and Io Shirai vs. NXT Women's Champion Charlotte Flair and a mystery partner

*Kushida vs. Drake Maverick vs. Jake Atlas (winner represents Group A in the finals of the interim Cruiserweight title tournament)
