Latest On The Rock Wrestling After WWE WrestleMania 40

Latest on Dwayne Johnson wrestling more than once in 2024

The Rock's in-ring future for the remainder of 2024 following WrestleMania 40 is currently uncertain.

Dwayne Johnson is set to make his in-ring return at WrestleMania 40 when he teams with Roman Reigns to take on Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the main event of night one on April 6. The expectation within WWE, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, is this will not be The Rock's last-ever match. However, there is uncertainty over when he will next wrestle as there is no date for another match from Dwayne Johnson and it all depends upon his movie schedule. The nature of The Rock's WWE deal does mean he could move dates around in Hollywood for a WWE pay-per-view.

The Rock looks set to be away from WWE following WrestleMania 40, with filming on A24's 'The Smashing Machine' set to run from May 1 until August 1. Johnson will star as UFC legend Mark Kerr in the movie. This would seemingly rule out The Rock wrestling at SummerSlam since that show will take place on August 3.

This would likely make WWE's second show in Saudi Arabia of 2024 the earliest possible date for a Rock match but another possibility could see The Rock delay another match until WrestleMania 41.

Beyond 'The Smashing Machine', Dwayne Johnson will be involved with the filming of the live-action Moana later this year, with the movie slated for a Summer 2025 release.
