'Lost' El Generico Matches In IMPACT Wrestling Resurface

Presumed ‘lost’ El Generico matches from IMPACT Wrestling have finally surfaced

It’s been over 10 years since we last saw El Generico, with the ‘Generic Luchador’ of the independent scene riding off into the sunset to help orphans in Mexico after ending his in-ring career in late 2012.

The ‘mentor’ of WWE’s Sami Zayn, Generico was a mainstay of Ring of Honor, CHIKARA, and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla during the indie wrestling boom of the mid-2000s, but rumours persisted that El Generico laced up his boots for a series of matches in TNA/IMPACT Wrestling.

After years of speculation and forums discussions, IMPACT Wrestling finally released the presumedly ‘lost’ matches from 2011, announcing that Generico’s previously unaired try-out matches against TJP and The Amazing Red were now available to view on IMPACT Plus.

The release follows a campaign from the DEADLOCK Podcast to release the matches, with interest in Generico high due to the popularity of his ‘protégé’ Sami Zayn in WWE.

A former PWG World Champion and ROH World Tag Team Champion with Kevin Steen, Generico was glimpsed at an NXT event in early 2013, shortly before Zayn made his debut for the company. Since retiring to work with orphans, little has been seen or heard of El Generico, with rumours suggesting the beloved lucha star passed away in mysterious circumstances.
