Main Event Set For NJPW Wrestle Grand Slam In MetLife Dome

Shingo will defend against EVIL

With Wrestle Grand Slam in Tokyo Dome now in the books, New Japan Pro-Wrestling have turned their attention to the September 4 and September 5 shows at the 33,000-seat MetLife Dome.

NJPW will return to the venue for the first time since 2014 later this year and New Japan announced the September 5 show will be headlined by an IWGP World Heavyweight Title match between champion Shingo Takagi and EVIL.

The match came about following Shingo's victory over Hiroshi Tanahashi at yesterday's Tokyo Dome show. After his victory, Takagi was giving the customary post-main event address but the lights in the dome suddenly went out and EVIL revealed he would be the next challenger for the world title. The King Of Darkness then appeared behind Shingo when the lights came back on and the future challenger laid out Takagi to end the show.

Also set for the September 5 show is an IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title match between Robbie Eagles and Hiromu Takahashi. The Ticking Time Bomb recently revealed he was cleared for in-ring action following a left pectoral injury and he revealed he wanted a shot at the title he never lost during yesterday's Tokyo Dome show. Robbie Eagles would then defeat El Desperado to capture the championship later in the day, setting up the match in the process.

The third match announced for September 5 was new champions Dangerous Tekkers vs. Tetsuya Naito and SANADA vs. YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto for the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship. Zack Sabre Jr. and Taichi regained the belts from Naito and SANADA at Wrestle Grand Slam in Tokyo Dome, only two weeks after they lost the titles. The Los Ingobernables de Japon members would demand a rematch following the match and YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto threw their names into the hat before the segment came to an end. Now, the match is official for the MetLife Dome.
