There has been plenty of unhappiness over Kairi Sane's release from WWE.

According to Fightful Select, there was a "ton of shock" within WWE about Kairi Sane's departure as she was involved in the ongoing programme between Asuka and IYO SKY. Sane being released before there was any real payoff to the feud also resulted in heavy frustration.

It was revealed on Friday, April 24 that Kairi Sane was one of 25 wrestlers let go by WWE in the aftermath of WrestleMania 42. The releases also included Wyatt Sicks, Alba Fyre, Zoey Stark, Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, Apollo Crews, the Motor City Machine Guns, Santos Escobar, and 11 NXT wrestlers.

Kairi Sane was in her second run with WWE, having returned to the organisation in 2023. Sane added two more reigns with the WWE Women's Tag Team Titles to her list of accolades, having won the belts again with Asuka as the Kabuki Warriors.

Sane's release, in particular, received a backlash from fans as #WeWantKairi circulated on social media. This included a post from WWE backstage interviewer Jackie Redmond, although her tweet was quickly deleted.

Kairi has addressed her WWE release, writing: "I'm truly grateful to have people like you by my side. Thank you for always being with me. I'll set sail…in my own time. Until then…I love you."
