Major Title Match Added To WWE NXT TakeOver: New York

NXT's seemingly-annual TakeOver: Brooklyn (well, it's TakeOver: New York this time, but it's the same building) card has been uprooted from August and transplanted into April this year, due to WrestleMania 35 emanating from north New Jersey.

Month and name change aside, the card is developing the same ambitious and prestigious feel as prior TakeOver: Brooklyn cards, in part due to a development at Saturday's NXT UK tapings in Coventry, England.

During the tapings, Johnny Saint announced that Pete Dunne would be the defending the NXT UK Championship at TakeOver: New York. Dunne responded by requesting WALTER as his opponent. A contract signing was held later in the tapings.

The match will mark the first time that the NXT UK title has been defended on the main card of a North American TakeOver since Dunne won the belt from Tyler Bate at the Chicago event in May 2017.

WALTER made his NXT UK debut in January at TakeOver: Blackpool, confronting Dunne after Dunne's submission victory over Joe Coffey.

NXT TakeOver: New York takes place on Friday night, April 5 at the Barclays Center.
