Major Women’s Title Match Planned For WWE WrestleMania 40

A major Women’s Title match under consideration for WWE WrestleMania 40

With the Royal Rumble coming up this weekend, talk has already started as to what shape WWE WrestleMania XL could take, with the 40th WrestleMania event set for April 6 and April 7.

Rumours and TV direction seem to indicate that CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes and/or The Rock to be the main events for the men’s division, but a report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has potentially shed light on WWE’s plans for one of it’s women’s division main events, with Rhea Ripley vs. Becky Lynch under consideration for the show.

Per the report, Women’s World Champion Ripley vs. Lynch has been planned ‘for months’, with Lynch a favourite to win the women’s Royal Rumble match. However, Meltzer has also suggested that Lynch could win the Elimination Chamber match instead to set up a championship clash with Ripley, whilst option C could see WWE pivot to a title feud between the two without any major win setting up such a clash.

If WWE do run with Ripley vs. Lynch then it would surely be a shoo-in to headline one of Mania’s nights, with Ripley currently serving as one of WWE’s most popular stars, never mind her status as a cover star for the upcoming WWE 2K24 video game.
