Malakai Black has revealed his AEW squash match win over Cody Rhodes was very much the execution of his vision.

Black faced off against The American Nightmare last week in the main event of AEW Dynamite: Homecoming and the former NXT Champion picked up the win after four minutes. Rhodes failed to connect with much offence during the encounter and Black picked up a dominant victory after sending Cody crashing through a table before finishing him off with a Black Mass.

Black commented on his AEW in-ring debut on Sean Waltman's Pro Wrestling 4 Life and The Harbinger Of Fury noted the match was his vision coming to fruition.

"I told Tony (Khan), 'I have this idea, this is how I view it, what do you think?' He said, 'I love it, I love everything about it.' He was confident enough to give me a shot at it. I clearly owe a lot to Cody. We think very much alike in a lot of things, which is very pleasant. I laid out what I wanted to do and they both thought it was cool and it worked. (The vision played out) exactly (how I imagined), with their perspective feedback," Black said.

"At the end of the day, I still work for someone else and I have to get their opinion and clearance. Luckily, I got clearance. Everything that me and him did played out exactly how I envisioned in my head and the payoff worked. It was crazy fun. It was a good moment for my career and good validation in understanding what you do and making it work."

Following the match, Cody teased retiring from professional wrestling but Black attacked him from behind with a crutch before he could do so. Rhodes will now take some time off to film the second season of the Go Big Show.
