Matt Hardy Is A Free Agent, Opts Against Re-Signing With AEW

Matt Hardy is no longer signed to AEW.

Matt Hardy is officially a free agent, according to Fightful Select.

After weeks of speculation, Hardy is no longer All Elite after his AEW contract expired. According to Fightful's report, the 49-year-old's contract had actually been extended for a few weeks through WWE WrestleMania 40 weekend.

No reason for this extension was given, as Hardy hadn't missed significant time due to injury. Hardy had been offered a new AEW deal, but decided not to re-sign with Tony Khan's promotion.

The multi-time tag team champion has stated that he does not intend to retire anytime soon. Matt's younger brother Jeff Hardy is still under contract to AEW, though he is currently on the injured list.

Matt Hardy has been with AEW for the past four years, having made his debut on the March 18, 2020 episode of Dynamite. In December, he criticised the way he and Jeff had been booked by AEW and expressed frustration with the tag team's creative direction.

Matt's last AEW match was a six-man tag outing on the January 5 edition of Rampage (taped January 3). In it, the Hardys teamed with Mark Briscoe to defeat Kip Sabian, The Butcher and The Blade.
