Matt Hardy Not Bothered By Referees Holding Ladders

The ladder match veteran weighs in

When it comes to ladder matches, few are a better authority on the subject than Matt Hardy.

The current AEW star has weighed in on the recent discussion about referees holding ladders during matches, after it was pointed out that the ringside officials were 'assisting' with the action during AEW's recent Face of the Revolution Ladder Match.

The stipulation match veteran himself isn't bothered by referees holding the ladders during a match, as he explained during a recent edition of his The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast.

Asked to give his thoughts on the situation, Hardy said:

"(The referee holding the ladder), that doesn't bother me at all. I mean, that's been happening since the beginning of time. Wrestling fans now are just a lot more critical than they've ever been. It is what it is. Everyone wants to speak out on everything. You're never going to please everyone. That's one thing I know. I go out and I do what I do to the best of my ability, and if people like it and enjoy it, that's great, and if they don't, it is what it is. I'm out there trying to work for the greater good. When you have guys climbing up on a ladder, and especially standing at the top, if you have a referee just underneath holding it, I mean, that doesn't bother me at all. Not one bit".

Matt has been involved in one ladder match during his AEW career thus far, as a participant in the Casino Ladder Match on the second anniversary (October 6, 2021) episode of Dynamite.
