Mickie James & Trish Stratus Don't Want WWE Divas Butterfly Belt To Return

The divisive WWE Divas title has been talked about recently

When Maria Kanellis revealed that she’d be open to the WWE Divas butterfly title returning it unsurprisingly created a ton of debate amongst wrestling fans.

The divisive and much maligned championship was synonymous with a low period for WWE’s women’s division, and despite Kanellis’ reasoning, many have been vociferous with their opposition to the belt returning, such as WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus who simply wrote “No.” on Twitter in response to the original story.

Former Divas Champion Mickie James was a little more measured in her response, tweeting:

“Personally. I prefer the OG Women’s Championship. Nothing is prettier. The women who held that championship were legends, Icons, History makers, Game changers. Ceiling breakers, todays road pavers. This one. Not so much.”

Whilst it seems that James was taking issue with the butterfly belt itself rather than the ‘Divas division era’ of WWE, Stratus’ objection is a little less clear.

Overall, 17 different wrestlers held the Divas Title during the belt’s eight-year run, with Charlotte Flair reigning as the final champion in 2016, before the title was scrapped, and the division relaunched at WrestleMania 32.
