New Japan Cup 2021 Results - March 18, 2021: Will Ospreay Vs. SANADA, Jay White Vs. David Finlay

Did Jay White advance?

After the first New Japan Cup 2021 semi-final matchup was set on Tuesday, Jay White took on David Finlay and SANADA faced Will Ospreay to determine the second semi-final earlier today.

White was one of the favourites to win the tournament but he crashed out of the New Japan Cup in the semi-main event.

Switchblade dominated the early going courtesy of repeated interference from Gedo, but Juice Robinson eventually had enough and carried NJPW's booker to the back. This left White to fight David Finlay alone and he couldn't put the IMPACT World Tag Team Champion away. Finlay then reversed a Blade Runner attempt into a Stunner in the closing stages and he followed up with ACID DROP to pick up the shock win.

Will Ospreay and SANADA then went one on one in an excellent match in the main event. Both men battled back and forth during the 18-minute contest and The Commonwealth Kingpin pinned SANADA after connecting with the Hidden Blade and Stormbreaker in the final moments.

The semi-final matches of Will Ospreay vs. David Finlay and Shingo Takagi vs. EVIL will take place on Saturday, March 20 at 8 am GMT/ 4 am ET. The winners will advance to Sunday's New Japan Cup 2021 final.
