WWE SummerSlam 2025 is fast approaching, with WWE heading to the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on August 2 and 3 for the first ever two-night edition of the event. On last night’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, some big changes and additions were made to the SummerSlam card.
Firstly, Solo Sikoa attempted to frame a hit-and-run on Jacob Fatu in an attempt to get him arrested, only to be put in cuffs himself. This led to a Steel Cage match being announced between the pair for the United States Championship at SummerSlam, keeping with the “locked up” theme.
Later in the night, John Cena attempted to back out of his planned SummerSlam title defence against Cody Rhodes, only to get attacked by his challenger during their contract signing. Rhodes put a pen in the prone hand of Cena and forced him to sign the contract (we’re not sure that’s legally binding, but it’s WWE so who knows) before revealing the fine print - their match is a Street Fight.
Elsewhere on SmackDown, it was announced that Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss would be challenging Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Several reports plans for SummerSlam have been revealed, such as Roman Reigns’ original match plans and rumours surrounding Seth Rollins’ Money In The Bank cash-in.
