Nic Nemeth's release from WWE in September 2023 wasn't a surprise to the man himself.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Nemeth revealed that he had actually been asking "the boss" to be allowed to move on for six months before he was finally let go by WWE.

"I've been preparing for this so long and getting things ready to go that I wasn't like 'What? What do I do now?' It was I was planning this along for half of this entire last contract with WWE. It wasn't out of the blue. I had sent a few emails to the boss for the last six months definitely saying 'I have to move on somewhere else, can you let me do this?' And eventually, without exact back and forth, that's how it worked out," the former Dolph Ziggler stated.

Nemeth had been a part of WWE for almost 20 years, having signed with the company in 2004. His release was part of post-UFC merger cuts within WWE that saw over 20 wrestlers lose their jobs.

Nemeth has since debuted in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, brawling with David Finlay at Wrestle Kingdom 18. Finlay will defend the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship against Nemeth on night one of New Beginning in Sapporo on February 23.
