Nick Aldis Reveals Why He & Cody Rhodes Never Had A Third Match

Nick Aldis and Cody Rhodes never had a rubber match

When Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks went ‘All In’ in 2018, Rhodes found himself facing off against NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis at the event, with ‘The American Nightmare’ toppling the ‘National Treasure’ to win the 10lbs of Gold.

The two would soon face off in a rematch with Rhodes dropping the title back to Aldis, but an anticipated third rubber match never materialised. Aldis recently appeared on the Universal Wrestling Podcast and revealed why the third match never took place, saying the following;

"Ring of Honor put that kibosh on that," Aldis said. "Cody even at the time had a little bit of hurt feelings about it because he wasn't quite sure who to trust... There was a lot of misconceptions around that period."

As for why ROH didn’t sanction a third match, Aldis gave his reasoning:

"[Rhodes] had to sort of let Ring of Honor know 'I'm out of here at the end of the year. You know, thanks for everything,'" Aldis continued. "Then, Ring of Honor basically said, 'Alright, that's it, you know?' At least, this is, this is the way, the version of it that I know. I was basically then sort of told like, 'Hey, you know, conclude your business with Cody at the next, at the Nashville show and that's that.'"

Aldis also revealed that he suggested a third match take place in London. The former two-time NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion is now a free agent following his acrimonious exit from NWA, whilst Cody Rhodes is out injured having rejoined WWE in early 2022.
