NJPW Announces New Japan Cup USA 2021

Who will face Jon Moxley?

New Japan Pro-Wrestling revealed earlier today that the New Japan Cup USA will return in a few weeks. The eight-man tournament will begin on April 2 on NJPW World and the winner will receive a shot at the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship.

Qualifying matches will take place on NJPW Strong over the next month to determine the eight-man lineup. The first two matches are Tom Lawlor vs. The DKC and Rocky Romero vs. Lio Rush and they will be broadcast on Friday, March 5.

Last year's New Japan Cup USA was won by KENTA, who unsuccessfully challenged champion Jon Moxley for the belt on last week's edition of NJPW Strong.

Shortly before the New Japan Cup USA announcement, NJPW revealed the lineup for the New Japan Cup. The likes of Jay White, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kazuchika Okada, Tetsuya Naito and Will Ospreay will battle it out in the 30-man single-elimination tournament for the right to challenge for the newly unified IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Sakura Genesis on April 4.
