NJPW President Wants "Around 10 Matches" Each Night At Wrestle Kingdom 16

Lots of matches

New Japan Pro-Wrestling fans can expect plenty of matches to take place inside the Tokyo Dome at Wrestle Kingdom 16.

NJPW President Takami Ohbari told Tokyo Sports recently that he "would like" around 10 matches to take place on each night of the Tokyo Dome shows on January 4 and January 5, 2022.

"First of all, I would like you to pay attention to the 'Best Of Super Juniors' and the 'World Tag League,' which are currently being held and will be decided on December 15 in Ryogoku. I would like you to understand that the players and staff are concentrating all their efforts on these events. I would like to have around 10 matches on both days," Ohbari said.

NJPW had previously limited the number of matches on their major cards due to the COVID-19 pandemic but that restriction was lifted earlier this year, beginning with Power Struggle in November.

Only a few matches have been announced for the Tokyo Dome Wrestle Kingdom shows so far. Night one is set to be headlined by an IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match between Shingo Takagi and Kazuchika Okada. The winner of that match will then defend the gold against Will Ospreay on January 5.
