At Sengoku Lord in Nagoya, Kazuchika Okada teased introducing a "controversial idea." This came only days after The Rainmaker said the value of the IWGP Heavyweight Championship has been halved by having a double champion.

Okada revealed what his controversial idea was at a special press conference earlier today as he announced the KOPW 2020 Title. Unlike a traditional title, the new championship will not have a belt and it will be reset at the end of every year.

A provisional champion will be crowned over two nights on August 26 at Korakuen Hall and on August 29 at Summer Struggle in Jingu. The tournament will start with four singles matches on August 26 in which each wrestler chooses their own match stipulation and fans will ultimately vote on what type of bout takes place. Okada noted it could be anything from Ladder matches to Steel Cage matches.

The victors on August 26 will then advance to a Four Way match on August 29 to determine the provisional KOPW 2020 Champion.
