NJPW Wrestle Grand Slam In Tokyo Dome Receives New Date

NJPW returns to the Tokyo Dome in July

Wrestle Grand Slam in Tokyo Dome has a new date.

The show was originally scheduled to take place on May 29, but New Japan Pro-Wrestling made the decision to postpone the event following the extension of the state of emergency in Japan.

The postponed show will now take place on July 25, NJPW announced during today's Kizuna Road event at Korakuen Hall.

The main event has also been revealed and Shingo Takagi will defend the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Kota Ibushi.

The match came about after Takagi challenged Ibushi to a title match following The Dragon's win over Kazuchika Okada for the vacant gold at Dominion. Takagi then announced he wanted to defend the title on "the biggest possible stage" and NJPW granted him his wish, booking the championship match for July 25.

This will be the first time Takagi has headlined a Tokyo Dome show. July 25 will be the fourth time Ibushi has done so.

NJPW also announced the postponed Wrestle Grand Slam in Yokohama Stadium show has been cancelled due to scheduling conflicts.
