Only 15 hours on from Wrestle Kingdom 19, New Japan Pro-Wrestling and All Elite Wrestling presented Wrestle Dynasty from the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan on Sunday, January 5.

In the semi-main event of Wrestle Dynasty, Kenny Omega made his in-ring return against Gabe Kidd, wrestling his first match since a life-threatening bout of diverticulitis in December 2023.

Surprisingly, Omega received a negative reaction from the fans inside the Tokyo Dome as commentator Chris Charlton criticised AEW on commentary, calling Tony Khan a "money mark." Kenny ultimately bought into those boos, working the contest as a heel which included him busting open Gabe Kidd following a Powerbomb through a table at ringside.

Omega followed up by taking out Gabe Kidd, Drilla Moloney, Clark Connors, and referee Bryce Remsburg with a Springboard Senton to the floor. The move left Omega with an injured hip, though, and turned the contest into a fight as Omega himself ended up bleeding after being Suplexed through a table and taking a shot to the head from a broken piece of table.

Red Shoes Uno brought the weapon spots to an end but the match remained a fight as Gabe Kidd was presented as the defender of NJPW against Omega, which included him channelling his inner Antonio Inoki with a Cobra Twist. Kidd came close to victory soon after following a Tiger Driver and Piledriver but Omega got his foot to the bottom rope.

The former IWGP Heavyweight Champion then entered another gear, connecting with a V-Trigger that Gabe Kidd kicked out of at one. Kidd didn't have much left, though, and he flipped off Omega as the AEW star hit a Kamigoye and One Winged Angel for the win.

After over 30 minutes, Kenny Omega proved he hadn't lost a step and Gabe Kidd proved he was the future of pro wrestling in a match that was so good it left NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi in tears.

This ultimately left the main event of Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Ricochet for the IWGP World Heavyweight Title in a very tough spot. Both men worked extremely hard but they couldn't reach the heights of Omega vs. Kidd. Their match was still very good, however, and saw ZSJ successfully defend his title by submission.

The Young Bucks wrestled inside the Tokyo Dome for the first time since 2019 in another headline match and their return was a successful outing as Matthew and Nicholas Jackson captured the vacant IWGP Tag Team Titles, defeating United Empire's Great-O-Khan & Jeff Cobb, and Los Ingobernables de Japon's Tetsuya Naito & Hiromu Takahashi. The match was an entertaining contest and saw The Bucks pick up the win following a Tony Khan Driver to Great-O-Khan to become two-time IWGP Tag Team Champions.

The Young Bucks' Elite stablemate and House of Torture member Jack Perry was also in action at Wrestle Dynasty as he challenged Yota Tsuji for the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship. Perry channelled his inner House of Torture after he decked Tsuji with a Low Blow while the official wasn't looking. Tsuji still kicked out, though, and he blocked Perry's Running Knee attempt before connecting with a Geneblaster out of nowhere for the victory.

In a hugely entertaining match, Konosuke Takeshita put the NEVER Openweight Championship and AEW International Title on the line against Tomohiro Ishii and the two competitors predictably battered each other, spent time landing on their heads, and both kicked out at one during the contest. Ishii was unable to connect with his Vertical Drop Brainbuster and Konosuke Takeshita finally flattened Ishii with a huge forearm. One Raging Fire later and it was Takeshita who left the Tokyo Dome having won two matches in two days.

Wrestle Dynasty also saw Mercedes Moné become a triple champion as the former Sasha Banks defeated Mina Shirakawa in a Winner Takes All Match to capture the RevPro Undisputed British Women's Championship. Moné's NJPW STRONG Women's Title was also on the line and she looked in danger of losing the belt as she worked much of the match with a storyline knee injury which was repeatedly targeted by Shirakawa with a Figure Four Leglock. Moné then looked set to lose following a Glamorous Driver but Mercedes kicked out at the last possible moment.

This didn't halt Shirakawa's momentum but the STARDOM and AEW star failed to lock in the Figure Four for a third time as Moné repeatedly reversed the move into pin attempts until she countered a Figure Four into the Moné Maker out of nowhere for the win.

Shota Umino was in action at Wrestle Dynasty following his loss in the Wrestle Kingdom main event as Umino’s issues with Jon Moxley came to the fore in the form of the Death Riders’ Claudio Castagnoli. Umino was attacked by Castagnoli during his entrance and the former ROH World Champion dominated almost the entire match, including hitting the Swing inside the Tokyo Dome as the fans counted along. Claudio also managed a Ricola Bomb but Umino later blocked the Neutralizer and countered into a Death Rider for the win.

In another AEW vs. NJPW affair, David Finlay got back to winning ways following his IWGP Global Heavyweight Title loss at Wrestle Kingdom as he defeated House of Black’s Brody King. The AEW star enjoyed plenty of offence, wowing the crowd after he decked Finlay with a Crossbody into the metal barricade. King suddenly found himself on the receiving end of a Reverse Powerbomb down the stretch, though, and Finlay put his opponent away with an Overkill to end a very good match.

In the second match at Wrestle Dynasty, two of the New Three Musketeers from the 2000s reunited as Hiroshi Tanahashi faced Katsuyori Shibata in a five-minute Grappling Rules Exhibition Match as NJPW won't sanction a full pro wrestling match for 'The Wrestler.' The match went to a five-minute time-limit draw and the two friends shook hands post-match. In a press conference after the match, Shibata invited Tanahashi to face or team with him in the United States at some point in 2025.

In the opening contest of Wrestle Dynasty, a Lucha Gauntlet featured the stars of CMLL and New Japan's junior heavyweight division as Taiji Ishimori pinned IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion El Desperado to win the match. The entertaining contest also saw Hechicero, Kosei Fujita, Soberano Jr, Master Wato, Titan, and Mascara Dorada in action.

On the pre-show of Wrestle Dynasty, Momo Watanabe of STARDOM defeated ROH's Athena, AEW's Willow Nightingale, and CMLL's Persephone to win the International Women's Cup. Athena had the match won but Watanabe's HATE stablemate Thekla pulled the referee out of the ring at the last moment. Athena then took a bat shot to the head and ate Watanabe's Peach Sunrise as the STARDOM star earned a title shot of her choosing courtesy of the Wrestle Dynasty win. It was later announced that Athena will defend the ROH Women's World Championship against Thekla at STARDOM's show on January 13 at Korakuen Hall.

Elsewhere on the pre-show, the Sons of Texas in Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara successfully defended the ROH World Tag Team Titles against House of Torture's Yoshinobu Kanemaru and SHO.
