Pat McAfee has revealed he won't be returning to WWE TV any time in the near future, with the commentator admitting on his Instagram Stories that he feels WWE has passed him by.
"I don't think you ever say never, especially with WWE, but right now it does not feel like it is something that's supposed to happen. Feels like that business has kind of passed me by a little bit. Grew up loving it, dreamed of working it. I feel honoured that I had the opportunity to work alongside the GOAT, Michael Cole, but I feel like he's in a good spot without me. I'll continue to watch," McAfee stated after being asked about a possible WWE return.
Pat McAfee had been in his second run as a WWE announcer on Monday Night Raw but he stepped away from WWE TV in June 2025, citing burnout. McAfee has traditionally also taken time off from September through to January due to his ESPN College GameDay commitments, but the former NFL punter has not returned to WWE TV following the end of the college football season.
While he has not appeared on WWE TV, McAfee has remained connected to WWE through the Pat McAfee Show. It was announced ahead of the Royal Rumble on the show that Brock Lesnar would be in the men's Royal Rumble match.
Pat McAfee first began making appearances on WWE TV in 2018 and he became an announcer alongside Michael Cole in April 2021. He was a full-time announcer until September 2022 and returned to the announce table in January 2024.
McAfee has also had several matches in WWE, most recently at Backlash 2025 where he lost to Gunther.
