Pat McAfee Expected To Take Time Away From WWE

Pat McAfee is set for a hiatus from WWE commentary

In 2022, Pat McAfee would take an extended hiatus after spending just over a year as a regular commentator in WWE, and given the controversy, lawsuits, and more taking place in the company, it was unknown when McAfee would make a return. His exit was due to him taking a role in ESPN’s College GameDay, where he was serving as an analyst, among other things.

McAfee would make some sporadic commentary appearances and compete at WrestleMania 39 in an impromptu match, but it wasn’t until January this year when he returned at the Royal Rumble that his official full-time return to commentary took place, and this has seen him since work with Michael Cole on Monday Night RAW. However, with it approaching the football season, McAfee may very well be gone once again.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was noted by Dave Meltzer that McAfee will be back with ESPN, and that whilst it is not confirmed, it is expected that he will be taken from WWE commentary during that time. It was revealed this month that WWE’s announce team would be joined by Joe Tessitore from ESPN, becoming a lead announcer on SmackDown.
