Powerhouse Hobbs has reportedly signed with WWE, joining the promotion following the expiration of his AEW contract in recent weeks, resulting in him dropping the AEW World Trios Championships. Although it isn’t known when exactly Hobbs put pen to paper, reports suggest that his debut in the company could come as soon as Royal Rumble weekend in Saudi Arabia next week.
Despite his frequent presence on AEW programming over the last year as part of The Opps faction, Hobbs opted against re-signing with AEW, even with the promotion being interested in keeping him. When it comes to his decision to leave AEW and join WWE, whom it was reported had keen interest in bringing him, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has revealed the potential reason.
It is noted that Hobbs’ decision reportedly centered around it being best for his family, with Meltzer suggesting that this could indicate a better money deal from WWE. Hobbs was seen as a “company guy” and well-liked within AEW, so it seems as though WWE put forth a more lucrative and inviting offer for him, which informed his switch.
