Possible Sign Matt Cardona Isn't WWE-Bound

Will The King of the Indies remain unsigned for a little while longer?

The rumours surrounding Matt Cardona's pro-wrestling future have been swirling for months, with many believing that he will follow his wife Chelsea Green in returning to WWE in the near future.

However, a recently booked rematch may suggest that the former Zack Ryder won't be going back to WWE anytime soon.

Last night, Battleground Championship Wrestling announced that Cardona will square off with Bully Ray on their July 1 Legends Never Die show. The loser of the match will be banned from Philadelphia's 2300 Arena for life.

Bully and the so-called King of the Indies clashed on Battleground Championship Wrestling's Tribute to the Extreme show on December 17, with Ray coming out victorious. They have since reignited their rivalry in the NWA.

If Cardona was going to return to WWE, it is unlikely (but not impossible) that the company would allow him to work an independent show booked so far in advance.

Cody Rhodes recently said he wants Cardona to return to WWE, while Cardona himself said he was open to the idea of wrestling Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania 39.
