A major update has emerged on the plans for AJ Lee's WWE return, something that was heavily teased at WWE Clash in Paris and on Monday Night Raw. The identity of Hologram's Clone/El Clon has also been revealed.
WWE and AEW rumours for Wednesday, September 3, 2025:
AJ Lee's return to WWE programming was heavily hinted at in the closing moments of Clash in Paris and on Monday Night Raw. This won't be a bait-and-switch either, and plans are in place for AJ Lee to return to WWE TV for the first time in a decade.
The return was spoiled by WWE Shop on X/Twitter, with a reply to Wrestling Daze on September 3 noting that AJ Lee merch will hopefully be ready by Wrestlepalooza.
WWE Shop wrote in a since-deleted tweet: "Hey there! Of course, we wouldn't expect that. With AJ Lee's return to the ring, we are looking to have some gear hopefully in time for Wrestlepalooza. Be sure you're signed up for emails and get the latest updates on new live inventory. Happy shopping!"
Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer has reported that CM Punk & AJ Lee vs. Seth Rollins & Becky Lynch is planned for WWE Wrestlepalooza.
Fightful Select also noted it has been heavily implied AJ Lee will be appearing or referenced on Friday's SmackDown in Chicago. Lee's return also may not be a one-off and WWE are hoping they can do more with the former Divas Champion. Even if she just works Wrestlepalooza, though, the company are happy to have the 38-year-old involved again.
AJ Lee's most recent WWE match was on the Raw after WrestleMania 31 when she teamed with Paige and Naomi to defeat The Bella Twins and Naomi. Lee retired from pro wrestling following the match.
Hologram will rekindle issues with one of his longtime rivals as Luchablog has reported that the identity of Hologram's Clone/El Clon, who debuted on in a vignette on the August 30 episode of AEW Collision, is Arez.
AEW filed to trademark 'The Clone' and 'El Clon' with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on September 5, 2024 and plans have been in place for Hologram vs. The Clone for over a year. Luchablog noted that Arez was planned to be El Clon back then but there was no urgency to sign another wrestler at the time.
Luchablog noted they believe AEW decided to move forward with plans to bring in Arez after the second ACTION DEAN show in May and when WWE expressed their own interest in the luchador.
WWE, according to Luchablog, made an offer to Arez, who had been a part of AAA from 2018 until 2024 before exiting the Lucha Libre promotion. Arez then contacted AEW about the offer, which resulted in All Elite Wrestling putting their own offer on the table. Arez then picked AEW over WWE.
HOOK made his return to All Elite Wrestling on the post-Forbidden Door edition of Dynamite, using 'So Tell The Girls That I Am Back In Town' by Jay-Jay Johanson as his new entrance music.
HOOK had previously used Action Bronson's 'The Chairman's Intent' for his theme, but the promotion had not used the music in 2025 after the rights to the song expired.
The decision was ultimately made to give HOOK a new theme and Fightful Select has reported that HOOK directly selected 'So Tell The Girls That I Am Back In Town.'
