PWG Announce First Round Matches For 2022 Battle of Los Angeles

PWG’s two-night tournament returns on January 29 & 30

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla have announced all the first round matches for the 2022 Battle of Los Angeles.

The two night tournament is set for January 29 and January 30 from LA’s Globe Theater, the same weekend as WWE’s Royal Rumble in St. Louis.

In a late change of plans, PWG announced that Phillip Five Skulls has retired and won’t be participating in BOLA, with recent IMPACT signing ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey taking his place. Phillip Five Skulls was a placeholder name in reference to a Tweet from 2021 and not a real wrestler, although CM Punk has jokingly suggested on Twitter that he was Phillip Five Skulls all along.

The full Battle of Los Angeles first round is as follows:

  • Bandido vs. "Speedball" Mike Bailey
  • JONAH vs. Buddy Matthews
  • Jonathan Gresham vs. Davey Richards
  • JD Drake vs. Black Taurus
  • Lee Moriarty vs. Alex Shelley
  • Jack Cartwheel vs. Lio Rush
  • Kevin Blackwood vs. Daniel Garcia
  • Aramis vs. Rey Horus

This will be the first Battle of Los Angeles event since 2019, and the first two-night BOLA since 2013, which saw Kyle O’Reilly defeat Michael Elgin in the final.
