Reason For Match Stipulation Change At WWE SummerSlam

Real events necessitated a quick direction change...

Last night at SummerSlam, Sonya Deville lost a Loser Leaves WWE match to Mandy Rose.

The match was originally scheduled to be a Hair versus Hair contest but was changed on Friday's episode of SmackDown.

While the reason for the change was never explicitly stated on television, there was speculation that it was in some way tied to the recent frightening attempted armed kidnapping of Deville.

According to Dave Meltzer on the recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, the decision to ditch the hair stipulation was because Deville had been booked to lose the match (and thus lose her hair), which her lawyer suggested would not be a good decision since she will need to appear in court soon.

Per Meltzer: "So the reason why they switched the stipulation from the Hair vs. Hair to the Loser Leaves Town was because her lawyer basically said that with this thing going on, it’s probably not a good idea to cut your hair and get your head shaved for court…so they did an impromptu Loser Leaves Town. Maybe because of the case she’s gonna take some time off. I know there’s other projects she was looking at doing. Obviously she’s gonna be back at some point".

Deville's words in a post-match interview seemed to hint that when she will return it will be under a new name and/or gimmick.

Vince McMahon still has plans to present a Hair versus Hair match on a future WWE show.
