Prior to AEW Dynasty, reports suggested there was a ‘ridiculous’ situation preventing the company finalising Chris Jericho and Bandido’s title vs. mask match.

The match was suggested by Jericho on AEW TV several weeks ahead of Dynasty on April 6, but was only completely finalised on the go-home edition of Collision on April 5. A report prior to this suggested there was a ‘ridiculous’ reason getting in the way of AEW formally announcing the bout, but it was seemingly cleared up. During the post-PPV media scrum, AEW President Tony Khan shed a little light on the situation in question:

"We did announce it formally on Collision but also to your point, I did have talent's best interest in mind," Khan said. "There was a family lined up to come in and a lot of things happening this past week and also wanted to make sure frankly that we were able to get the right people here for the right moment that we wanted to have... there were some challenges on the way this week, it was personal stuff, but it worked out."

It seems as though the issue was in getting Bandido’s family to the show, with Bandido’s mother and sister playing a major part in the finish of the match.
