Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods of The New Day are among the most notable of WWE’s latest set of departures, with it revealed yesterday that they had mutually agreed to a WWE release, leaving WWE along with the likes of JC Mateo and Tonga Loa. More has now been learned on the reasoning behind their departure.
After re-signing with WWE just last year in deals that were believed to take them through 2030, it is noted by Fightul Select that Kingston & Woods were asked by WWE & TKO to restructure their new deals. The pair rejected this proposal and asked for their release from the company, which was granted. It is stated in this report that TKO “tasked WWE with shedding millions of dollars in payroll”, which is likely why The New Day were initially asked to reshape their deal, where they are believed to each make seven figures.
When it comes to their WWE release, it is believed that Kingston & Woods had made their decision as long ago as last Monday. There is talk that AEW are interested in bringing in The New Day, with several AEW wrestlers posting about the duo on the back of their exit. These latest WWE releases come a week after a bunch of other post-WrestleMania releases to names such as Aleister Black, Kairi Sane, Motor City Machine Guns, and more.
