The WrestleMania 42 storyline involving Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton underwent a turbulent road during WrestleMania season, with the likes of Pat McAfee and Jelly Roll controversially getting involved in proceedings. Another name some fans speculated and fantasy booked to be involved was Ted DiBiase Jr. However, this was never a serious option for WWE.
Orton & Rhodes have a long history together in WWE, with their first alliance dating back to 2008 when they formed The Legacy faction along with Ted DiBiase Jr. (and Manu, we can’t forget Manu). With some of their history explored on the road to WrestleMania 42, and with Ted DiBiase Jr. being found not guilty of all charges in a welfare fraud case this year, some fans wanted the third member of their old group thrown in the mix. According to Fightful Select, WWE never seriously considered bringing him in. It is noted that WWE didn’t think of him as a “necessary party” to the history between Orton & Rhodes.
The storyline and booking of Rhodes/Orton changed a lot of times throughout WrestleMania season, with it reported that Orton was originally scheduled to win their clash for the WWE Championship.
