Reason Why WWE Never Announces The Rock's Returns
Why WWE doesn't announce The Rock's returns revealed
The Rock has made two comebacks to WWE in recent months, making a return on SmackDown in September and then once again this past week on RAW: Day 1 to hint at a challenge at Roman Reigns. On both occasions, The Rock’s return has not been announced by WWE ahead of time. This follows a trend of The Rock’s returns over the years, which have almost always been surprise appearances.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed why WWE never announced The Rock ahead of time, despite the fact that it would no doubt see a huge boost in ratings. The reasoning comes down to The Rock himself making the call.
“He's doing this for fun because he doesn't have to do it. And he's doing it for excitement. That type of thing. That's why when he came back Monday, it wasn't announced at a time like if they had announced that ahead of time. I mean, the rating would have been much higher, much higher than it was. He was doing it because in that case, he wanted that pop because of people in the building not knowing he was going to be there. And there he is. That's what he wants. Every time he comes back, they never announce it ahead of time.”
Even though WWE might care more about ratings, it isn’t something The Rock is interested in, and with the social media buzz that WWE will undoubtedly get from an appearance from The People’s Champion, it is understandable that compromises will be made for The Rock’s returns and they won’t announce it ahead of time.
