One of the talking points of the recent AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door show was the abrupt ending to the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship four-way, with Jay White pinning Adam Cole without hitting a move, Cole visibly trying to kick out as White pinned him out of nowhere.

Reports soon after the show claimed that Cole suffered a concussion at some point during the bout, and writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has reported that the concussion was bad, and has added to Cole’s prior injury woes:

“Cole, who has been wrestling with a torn labrum (shoulder), suffered what was believed to have been a very serious concussion, leading to a rushed and awkward finish of the IWGP title match as Jay White pinned him. It’s probably best to fix the torn labrum with surgery, or at least with a lot of rehab, but that also would mean a long time out and clearly by the fact he was wrestling on it, that means he’s mentally wanting to continue. But it’s better to get it fixed now if possible,” said Meltzer.

AEW are in the midst of an injury crisis, and losing Cole for any amount of time will be a blow for the company. However, the health and wellbeing of any performer should always come first, so if Cole’s injuries are as bad as what’s been reported then expect the former ROH World Champion to being taking some time off.
