It was initially reported that

AJ Styles suffered some sort of injury to his arm

during the course of Sunday night's men's Royal Rumble match in Houston, leading him to being eliminated earlier than was originally intended.

Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer

has since provided an update, saying he was told that the injury is a shoulder separation. The severity of the apparent separation, however, is not presently known.

Styles appeared to suffer the injury after he was speared by Edge, resulting in Styles landing awkwardly. He was seen conferring with ringside officials and trainers while laid out on the canvas right after.

Moments later, Styles finally got to his feet and was quickly thrown out by Edge, far sooner than Styles was apparently supposed to be eliminated.

Styles was examined upon reaching the backstage area, and was seen later in the night with his arm heavily wrapped.

It's not clear how long, if at all, Styles will be out of action, or whether or not he'll even appear on tonight's episode of Raw.
