Report: Andy Kaufman To Be Inducted Into The WWE Hall Of Fame

Andy Kaufman reportedly in line for a WWE Hall of Fame induction

WWE have so far confirmed just two names for the forthcoming 2023 Hall of Fame induction ceremony on March 31, but a new report states that the late Andy Kaufman could be heading for the HOF, joining Rey Mysterio and The Great Muta.

As reported by Variety, Kaufman is believed to be the third name set for the 2023 HOF class, with the legendary performance artist/alternative comedian a cult figure in the wrestling world due to his intense rivalry with Jerry Lawler in Memphis in the early 1980s.

Whilst Lawler, Kaufman, and Kaufman’s manager Jimmy Hart were friendly behind the scenes, the angle received national exposure when Lawler infamously assaulted Kaufman on Late Night with David Letterman in 1982, with Kaufman launching into a foul mouthed tirade after claiming that Lawler intentionally broke his neck in the ring with a piledriver.

Lawler would play himself in the 1999 Kaufman biopic Man on the Moon opposite Jim Carrey as Kaufman, and if Kaufman is indeed headed for the Hall of Fame, then it’s assumed that Lawler will be on hand to induct the former self-proclaimed ‘Inter-Gender Wrestling Champion of the World’.
