Following her match with Mickie James on Monday's Raw, Asuka had no time to celebrate as Zelina Vega suddenly made her way to the ring and confronted the Raw Women's Champion.

Vega said she was done wasting her career managing Andrade and Angel Garza and lambasted The Empress Of Tomorrow for defending the title against "the Superstars of yesterday" instead of "one of the best in the business today." She then declared she was ready to hold the Raw Women's Championship. Asuka immediately responded to Zelina's declaration, but the former TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champion slapped her in the face to end the segment.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported the angle was designed to kickstart the build to a match between the two Superstars, which will likely take place at Clash Of Champions. The company hasn't fully committed to Vega getting a title shot at the pay-per-view, however, as Johnson noted the bout "wasn't 100% set in stone."

According to Dave Meltzer, WWE originally planned to have Asuka defend the title against Shayna Baszler on September 27. The Queen Of Spades will defend the Women's Tag Team Championship with Nia Jax against The Riott Squad instead, though.
