Report: Backstage News On Canadian Flag Spot During Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay At Forbidden Door

Will Ospreay channelled his inner Shawn Michaels at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay faced off in another match of the year contender at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on Sunday, June 25 as they went one-on-one for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship.

Unlike their first encounter, Will Ospreay worked as a heel throughout the match against Kenny Omega, with the show taking place in Toronto, Canada. One particular moment to draw heat saw Will Ospreay grab a Canadian flag from a "fan" at ringside and do his best Shawn Michaels impression as he flossed his teeth and wiped his nose with the flag.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has reported that the spot was planned ahead of the match and the "fan" with the flag was Chip Chambers, a Canadian wrestler on the independent wrestling scene. While they did not address the spot specifically, Fightful Select noted the Forbidden Door match was meticulously planned by Omega and Ospreay.

Will Ospreay would go on to defeat Omega and regain the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship. The 30-year-old will head back to Japan soon, with NJPW's G1 Climax 33 set to get underway on July 15 and run until August 13.
