Report: Backstage News On Chris Jericho's PWG Debut

Chris Jericho made his surprise PWG debut at the Battle of Los Angeles

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla kicked off 2023 with their annual Battle of Los Angeles tournament, with the two-night event one of the highlights of the American indy wrestling calendar.

As part of the show, Chris Jericho made his shocking debut for the company, teaming with the entire JAS as they took on Jonathan Gresham, Kevin Blackwood, Michael Oku, Evil Uno, and SB KENTo on night two, January 8.

The idea of Jericho working for PWG is not a new one, as a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer proposes that the two sides had been discussing an appearance for some time, with Meltzer suggesting that Jericho and PWG co-owner/AEW lead announcer Excalibur had discussed working together at least six months back.

Jericho allegedly wanted to work PWG ‘just for the fun of it’, with JAS member and PWG World Champion Daniel Garcia suggesting in late 2022 that Jericho should join him and one other at BoLA for a six-man tag. Jericho was seemingly supportive of the idea, but instead suggested a ten-man tag with Jake Hager, Anna Jay, and Tay Melo ringside so the entire Jericho Appreciation Society could be present.

Meltzer also reports that Jericho took the idea to AEW President Tony Khan who gave his blessing, saying he ‘loved the idea’.
