As seen on AEW: Dynamite Quake by the Lake on August 10, AEW World Champion CM Punk made his surprise return after several months non the injury list, squaring up to Interim Champion Jon Moxley at the close of the show.

It seems that a title unification match between the two is all but set for All Out on September 4, and a report from Fightful Select suggests that AEW were always hopeful that Punk would be back in time for All Out.

Punk’s return was played very close to the chest, with a ‘restricted area’ erected backstage at Dynamite - presumably so Punk could arrive and change in secret. Fightful’s report goes on to suggest that Punk’s return was kept quiet from staff and much of the roster, including some who were involved in the BCC vs. JAS show closing angle.

After winning the AEW World Championship at Double or Nothing in May, Punk would injure his foot on the next episode of Dynamite on June 1 and would be gone from AEW television for the next two months.
