Report: Backstage News On FTR Dropping The AAA World Tag Team Titles

FTR gone from AAA

FTR lost another set of championships this week as The Top Guys dropped the AAA World Tag Team Titles to Dragon Lee and Dralistico at the promotion's show from Acapulco, Mexico on December 28.

This ended Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler's reign at 438 days and four successful title defences. The new champions only held the belts for a few minutes, though, as Dragon Lee announced he had signed with WWE, vacating the tag titles in the process.

It was noted following their loss that FTR were done with AAA. In an update, Fightful Select reported Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler are finished with the lucha libre promotion for the time being. FTR told AAA they wanted to drop the titles and finish up with the company at the end of 2022.

FTR losing the belts comes amidst uncertainty over their in-ring futures, with Dax Harwood recently admitting he thinks the team's AEW contracts are up at the end of April 2023. The Top Guys dropped the ROH World Tag Team Titles to The Briscoes at Final Battle and FTR are expected by many to lose the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships to YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto at Wrestle Kingdom 17.
