Matt Riddle looked set to establish himself as a top star in WWE as part of RK-Bro with Randy Orton before he transitioned into feuds with the likes of Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins after Orton took time off due to a serious back injury. Riddle's push came to a halt towards the end of 2022, however, and he was written off TV in December, with reports later noting the former United States Champion had been suspended by WWE and sent to rehab after failing a drugs test.

Riddle returned to WWE on the Raw after WrestleMania 39 but he hasn't been pushed on the same level since his comeback, sinking to a new low on the July 31 edition of Monday Night Raw as he was defeated clean by Ludwig Kaiser in the Imperium member's first singles win on WWE TV since July 2022.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Riddle's personal issues have meant WWE no longer view him as a top star.

"I wonder what happened. You know, Kaiser's not the guy you would expect to beat Riddle clean. So I don't know if you know, I mean, obviously, you know, they've already, they've decided long, long ago that Riddle for whatever reason. And there, you know, look, here are good reasons. Riddle seems to get into trouble too often. So he's not the guy that they're gonna build around or anything like that, but they've still kept him, you know, stronger than losing clean in the middle to Kaiser. But he did here. So, you know, as soon as I saw that, it's like, 'Man, he's lower than I thought he was in their minds,'" Meltzer said.
