Report: Backstage News On Why WWE SummerSlam Was Such A Long Show

Why last Saturday's WWE SummerSlam went so long.

A report from Fightful Select has revealed why last weekend's WWE SummerSlam 2023 was such a long show. The report implies that the show was designed to be long in the first place, only going slightly over its originally planned time:

"The show went slightly over time. Most matches were roughly scheduled for 15 minutes. We're told that a couple of matches went slightly over time, and some went way under time. We haven't been told that any matches egregiously went past their planned time."

Several matches did indeed fall somewhere around the 15-minute mark, including Logan Paul vs. Ricochet, Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar, GUNTHER vs. Drew McIntyre, and Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor. The WWE Women's Championship triple threat match between Asuka, Bianca Belair and Charlotte Flair went almost 21 minutes, while the main event between Roman Reigns and Jey Uso was comfortably the longest match of the night, clocking in at just over 36 minutes.

Fightful Select's point that no matches went egregiously over their planned time seems to imply that the two longer bouts were designed as such.
