Report: CM Punk Had An Altercation With William Regal At AEW Revolution 2022

CM Punk confronted William Regal at AEW Revolution 2022

Sunday nights are definitely alright for fighting if your name is CM Punk it seems.

All Elite Wrestling fired Punk on Saturday, September 2 following an investigation into the backstage altercation he had with Jack Perry at the All In pay-per-view. Tony Khan decided to fire Punk with cause following advice from the AEW disciplinary committee and outside legal counsel who recommended he sack the two-time AEW World Champion.

This was the latest backstage altercation that Punk had backstage in AEW following Brawl Out one year earlier where he and Ace Steel had a fracas with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks following Punk's infamous post-All Out media scrum.

All In 2023 and All Out 2022 weren't CM Punk's only backstage altercations at AEW shows, however. Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam.net has reported that Punk had a backstage altercation with William Regal following Regal's AEW debut at Revolution 2022. During the altercation, Punk reportedly refused to shake Regal's hand and he then got in Regal's face, telling him that he didn't like nor trust him and that Regal was a "stooge for Triple H."

Regal didn't think the altercation was a big deal to the point he didn't tell anyone about it for months, according to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio

"At the time, Regal didn't even tell anybody. He told friends about it like months later and when he told them he didn't make it sound like it was a very big deal. That's not saying that it wasn't a big deal but he was saying it wasn't that big a deal," Alvarez stated.

Regal had a brief run in All Elite Wrestling in 2022, forming Blackpool Combat Club with Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley, with the stable later adding Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli as members. Regal departed the promotion in late 2022 ahead of returning to WWE as Vice President of Global Talent Development. Regal remains involved with Blackpool Combat Club as part of the faction's group chat.
