Although the current plan within WWE is for CM Punk to face Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam, the Second City Saint is "touch-and-go" to be ready for an in-ring return at the August 3 pay-per-view, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio.

Punk was laid out by Drew McIntyre on the June 21 episode of Friday Night SmackDown in Punk's hometown of Chicago, Illinois. The attack was reportedly done, according to Meltzer, as it gives WWE a reason to delay Punk vs. McIntyre beyond SummerSlam if Punk is unable to return from injury in time.

"It's touch-and-go about SummerSlam. They were hoping for SummerSlam. It buys them more time, yeah. The hope is he's ready for SummerSlam. It was not like a sure thing, but that's the big show. That's where they want it [Punk vs. McIntyre]," Meltzer said.

Punk is currently out of action with a torn triceps that he suffered in the men's Royal Rumble back in January. Punk sustained the injury following a Futureshock DDT from Drew McIntyre and the two talents have been feuding ever since. The feud had been one-sided, though, with Punk twice costing McIntyre the World Heavyweight Title, first at WrestleMania 40 and then at Clash at the Castle, until McIntyre took out Punk on SmackDown.
