Report: CM Punk 'Won't Be Back' In AEW

An AEW return for CM Punk is reportedly unlikely

With the recent reports that The Elite were backstage at the October 26 edition of AEW Dynamite and set to return to work ‘imminently’, talk turned to the future of CM Punk in AEW, amidst reports that a buy-out of the two-time AEW World Champion’s contract was in the works.

However, a new report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggests that Punk will not be returning to AEW, with Meltzer alleging that several big names in the company were saying that Punk will not be back.

The report states that one top star noted, ‘Punk won’t be back. His value on screen isn’t one percent worth the hassle and black cloud he causes backstage’, echoing reports that Chris Jericho allegedly told Punk that he was ‘cancer’ to the locker room.

Whilst Punk still has his supporters in the company, Meltzer reports that another top AEW star noted ‘the team decided he’s out’ regardless of there being names willing to work with him, with ‘most’ of the key top stars in AEW reportedly unwilling to work with the controversial star.

Meltzer added that ‘almost the entire locker room and in particular the other biggest stars had sided with the Bucks and Omega over Punk’, with the fallout from the post All Out brawl still reverberating through AEW.
