Report: Further Details On Original Plans For Ric Flair's Retirement Match

Why Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat will not be in action revealed

Ric Flair's last match inside the squared circle has yet to be officially announced but further details on the original plans for the contest have emerged.

Past reports have noted that original plans called for Flair to team with FTR against The Rock 'N' Roll Express and Flair's former rival Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat. The plan ultimately fell through, however, with Steamboat noting he had turned down the offer to come out of retirement.

In an update on the initial plans, Fightful Select reported that Steamboat was interested in coming out of retirement for Ric Flair's retirement match but The Dragon's asking price was "extremely high". The WWE Hall Of Famer did meet about the match but both sides could not agree on terms.

Fightful also reported they could not confirm what Ric Flair's retirement match would be beyond that it will be a tag team bout. FTR have yet to be cleared to compete in the match by AEW President Tony Khan.

The event 'Ric Flair's Last Match' will take place in Nashville, Tennessee, on July 31 as part of Starrcast V. A press conference for the event was held yesterday and two undercard matches were announced for the show
