Report: John Cena Set For WWE WrestleMania 36 Match

Against whom?

John Cena has not wrestled in over 13 months, last competing in a four way number one contender's match on Monday Night Raw on January 14 of last year. Since then, WWE appearances from the 16-time World champion have become much more sparse.

Cena is, however, set to return to WWE television in the coming weeks, and is reportedly in the plans for a match at WrestleMania 36.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Cena's opponent for the event will be Elias.

Over the preceding two WrestleManias, Cena and Elias have had altercations with each other. Two years ago, Elias confronted Cena before the latter's match with The Undertaker, leading to a brawl.

Last year, Cena (in full Doctor of Thuganomics regalia) disrupted Elias' in-show concert, and cut one of his patented diss-filled freestyles, before beating Elias down.

Cena's return to WWE programming takes place on the February 28 edition of WWE SmackDown, live from Cena's neck of the woods in Boston. Meltzer assumes the angle to set up the WrestleMania match will be filmed there.
