Report: Matt Hardy Still A Free Agent Despite Links To AEW

Fans will have to wait for All Elite Wrestling to be more WONDERFUL...

On Sunday, March 1, Matt Hardy confirmed his WWE contract had expired and that he was now officially a free agent. Soon after, both Hardy and All Elite Wrestling teased he was set to sign with the young promotion and be revealed as Dark Order's Exalted One. The Young Bucks even showed up in the finale of FREE THE DELETE to assist Matt in his battle against Abomination.

Despite this, Hardy did not debut on this week's episode of Dynamite, and his first scheduled appearance outside of WWE will be at The Big Event 18 convention on March 7 in New York City, New York.

According to Dave Meltzer at the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this is because Matt is still officially a free agent and is yet to sign a contract with AEW. He did note, however, that even WWE believe the former SmackDown Tag Team Champion will join the promotion in the coming weeks.

Meltzer penned: "It looks like Matt Hardy is coming in. His WWE contract expired and he posted a video on 3/4 and at the end of the video The Young Bucks showed up at his place in Cameron, NC. Two days earlier, on BTE, at the end of the show, Matt Jackson got a phone call and it showed a North Carolina area code. We’re told he has not officially signed the contract and is still a free agent at this moment."
